Career history

Roles

Director of Carbon Projects & Product Grain Ecosystem · 2022–2026

Carbon Project Development Expert (2022–2025), then Director (2025–2026)

  • First and sole carbon hire at a biochar carbon-removal startup; built the carbon function end to end.
  • Ran the full project lifecycle for customers — methodology selection, design, monitoring, and verification readiness — across Puro.earth, Verra VCS, CAR, and Isometric.
  • Led the product team below the CEO; owned roadmap and shipped releases for the feasibility and MRV platform.
  • Authored SOPs, monitoring-plan templates, and compliance frameworks; trained team members and customers on methodology interpretation.
  • Performed cross-standard methodology analysis to inform which registries and methodologies to pursue.
Carbon Accreditation Lead Blue Ocean Barns · 2021–2022

Livestock enteric-methane reduction startup (dairy and beef)

  • Stood up the carbon program from scratch — both the VCM project track and the customer-facing strategy work.
  • Wrote the company's first PDD (VCS VM0041) and listed its first project on the Verra registry.
  • Designed and ran on-farm monitoring at a supplier dairy: built the data-collection framework, trained farm staff, and validated incoming data against the methodology.
  • Advised corporate sustainability teams at major food and dairy brands on fitting the reductions into their Scope 3 strategy.
Manager, Carbon Offset Project Design Radicle / Climate Smart Group · 2017–2021

Technical Analyst (2017–2020), then Manager (2020–2021)

  • Developed and managed agricultural and energy offset projects as proponent of record across ACR, CAR, and the Alberta Emission Offset System.
  • Carried a project portfolio through 10 successful verifications in 2019–2020; managed a team of three analysts.
  • Ran a USDA-NRCS nitrogen-management pilot end to end — grower outreach through credit issuance.
  • Led the Ducks Unlimited Prairie Pothole avoided-conversion PDD (ACR) through to credit issuance, including a 5-year DayCent modeling effort.
  • Led due diligence and go/no-go recommendations on new project opportunities; built standardized processes for company growth.
Sustainability Specialist Viresco Solutions · 2016–2019
  • Authored the first draft of CAR's Canadian Grassland Protocol, coordinating with stakeholders and working groups.
  • Authored a carbon insetting (Scope 3) framework for an agricultural supply-chain project and designed its soil-carbon sampling plans.
  • Conducted comparative analyses of agricultural soil-carbon methodologies across VCS and CAR.
  • Adapted offset protocols for Ontario and Quebec across conservation cropping, nitrous oxide, livestock, and grasslands.
Data Analyst & Research Assistant Colorado State University · 2014–2016

Natural Resource Ecology Laboratory · Dr. Stephen Ogle

  • Modeled soil carbon stock change with DayCent and the simplified CENTURY model; wrote R scripts for model runs and Monte Carlo uncertainty analysis.
  • Built a global carbon-stock model with associated uncertainty parameters over a 10-year period.
  • Contributed to national GHG inventory methods, including USDA soil N₂O estimation.
Field Research Assistant Woods Hole Research Center · 2014
  • Studied forest soil CO₂ efflux response to climate change at an AmeriFlux site.
  • Operated infrared gas analyzers and dynamic chamber systems; performed QA/QC and time-series analysis on flux-tower datasets.
Site Development Intern First Solar · 2012
  • Mapped and researched candidate sites for utility-scale solar using BLM data.
  • Supported contractors writing and editing Environmental Impact Statements; maintained a land-portfolio database.

Beyond carbon

Product & Operations

The carbon work has always run alongside product and operational leadership — most fully at Grain, where my role spanned carbon, product, and execution at once.

  • Led a three-person product team (backend, frontend, design) below the CEO — owning roadmap, sprint priorities, and release scheduling.
  • Shipped platform releases on a two-month cadence, including a major feature release and a dashboard redesign.
  • Scoped MVPs end to end: user flows, wireframes, Jira tickets with acceptance criteria, and configuration specs handed to engineering.
  • Defined the data models and information architecture behind the platform — asset hierarchies, evidence flows, and methodology-to-calculation mappings.
  • Served as primary execution lead below the CEO: advised go/no-go on new projects and methodologies, and built the onboarding playbook Customer Success ran from.
  • At Radicle, helped shape proprietary carbon software while deploying it with customers — requirements, data mapping, QA, and issue tracking.

Beyond full-time roles

Consulting & Advisory

  • Methodology consultations 2023–2026

Formal responses on the CAR Biochar Protocol and Rainbow Standard biochar methodologies.

  • Puro.earth Biochar Working Group 2024–2025

Contributed project-developer expertise to the v2025 methodology revision.

  • Unite to Light 2024–2025

Restructured an 85-page Gold Standard PDD around the correct criteria; the project completed validation.

  • Verra Scope 3 Initiative 2022

Working-group member on Scope 3 accounting and crediting frameworks.

  • Early-stage climate-tech advisory 2022

Methodology pathway analysis and carbon-market feasibility assessments for early-stage climate-technology startups, spanning transport carbon capture and low-carbon manufacturing.
